creating safe spaces to deconstruct gender inequity

shehive meetup: intersectionality

  • Mo'Joe Coffeehouse 222 West Michigan Street Indianapolis, IN, 46204 United States

Join as Mo'Joe Coffeehouse this Sunday, April 17th at 3pm to discuss:

The first 10 pages (Pg. 1241-1250) of "Mapping the Margins," a paper by Kimberlé Williams Crenshaw, about identity politics and intersectionality. It's a chance for us to learn more about the meaning of intersectionality from the black woman who coined the term, a word we hear a lot but may not have an opportunity to talk through.

And "Heteropatriarchy and the Three Pillars of White Supremacy," a short essay by Andrea Smith, about how women-centered organizing is impacted by identity politics and intersectionality.

Meetups are a gender neutral, child-friendly space to safely discuss gender issues in pop culture. Feel free to come even if you're unable to read the material as it will be an inclusive and fruitful conversation.

You can download the essays from shehive.org/resources. See you soon!
